Clayton Chapter News - 2001

Members from three DeMolay Chapters and Clayton members converged on Mom and Dad Griggers home on December 8, 2001 for a campout in their large back yard. Mountain Park courtesy candidate David Cooper received the Initiatory and DeMolay degrees at nearby Hampton Lodge # 70 in the evening, the first time DeMolay degrees had been conferred in that lodge hall.  Congratulations to Amanda Cartledge for being elected Clayton Chapter Sweetheart at the August 2, 2001 meeting. Amanda is the sister of Master Councilor Russell Cartledge and daughter of incoming Parents' Club President, Robin Cartledge. Amanda has been a great supporter of Clayton Chapter for several years, faithfully attending and helping out with virtually every Chapter activity and fundraiser. This lovely young lady will be a great representative of Clayton Chapter. Plans are underway for the official crowning. (Posted 8/4/01)

At the Advisory Council meeting on July 26, 2001, Dad Jack Ring stepped down as Chairman and resigned from the Advisory Council, having fulfilled his pledge to help Clayton out through Conclave 2001. Executive Officer Dad Marc Bohn, who was attending the meeting, thanked Dad Ring for coming out of retirement to assist Clayton through this important task of preparing for and hosting Conclave. He commended him on the good job he had done.

Dad Dennis Honea also resigned from the Advisory Council to focus on his activities at Rainbow, where his daughter is a state officer, and Amaranth, where he and Mom Honea are officers. Dad Bohn also thanked him for the great job he had done for Clayton. Dad Honea was there for six years to see his son rise to the highest post in DeMolay, State Master Councilor, and to rise to the rank of State Chapter Dad himself. Clayton Chapter took 13 members and 4 advisors to Conclave 2001, which was held from July 20-22, 2001. Our own Derrick Honea gave the State Master Councilor's collar and jewel to incoming SMC Justin Nobles and Jonathan Canada gave the State Senior Deacon's collar and jewel to incoming SSD Adam Fowler. State Chapter Dad Dennis Honea gave the collar and jewel to incoming SCD Dad Michael Riley. Other members attending were: John Butler, Matt Butler, Michael Canada, Russell Cartledge, Sidny Davis, Brian Eidson, Adam Fink, Eric Fink, Michael Griggers, Adam Perry, and Jeramy Pursell. Other advisors attending were: Larry Griggers, Mike Butler (prospective) and Jack Ring. Parents Club Members attending were Georgia Butler, Robin Cartledge, Debbie Griggers Laydelena Honea, and Kim May. Other guests from Clayton attending were Amanda Cartledge, Inman & Mary Hendrix, Lindsey Honea, Megan Rambler, Alice Ring and Hazel Wade.

Clayton Chapter received the Chapter of the Year award for membership recruitment and orientation. Clayton Parent's Club received the Parents Club of the Year award and the Best Scrap Book award. Adam Perry won a trophy for fastest time in swimming the length of the pool, John Butler won a trophy for having the best time in the 50-yard dash (6.21 seconds). (Posted 7/27/01)

Over 80 people turned out on July 15, 2001 at 2 PM to show their support for the new officers of Clayton Chapter for the term 7/1/01 - 12/31/01. On June 24, 2001, Mom and Dad Griggers, Mom and Dad Dennis Honea and Brother Matt Butler traveled to Mountain Park Chapter to witness the installation of the new officers. (Posted 7/27/01)

On June 20, 2001, Dad Griggers, Dad Mike Butler, and Bros. John Butler, Russell Cartledge, Michael Griggers, Adam Perry and Alex Williams traveled over 150 miles to visit Augusta Chapter on their regular meeting night to witness the installation of the new officers. By bringing five members and at least one advisor, they were also able to capture the "Galloping Gavel", which Augusta Chapter had held since Conclave 2000 in July of the previous year. Russell Cartledge was elected Master Councilor for the ensuring term. Adam Fink was elected Senior Councilor and Alex Williams was elected Junior Councilor. Congratulations to all these new officers. We will post the appointed officers as soon as the Master Councilor elect has them finalized. The Installation has been tentatively set for July 15, 2001 at 2 PM. (Posted 06/24/01)

Several changes were made to the Advisory Council at the April 26, 2001 meeting. Dad Honea stepped down as Chairman and Interim Chapter Dad to work full time in his capacity as State Chapter Dad. Dad Jack Ring was named as the new Chairman and Dad Larry Griggers was reappointed as Chapter Dad. Dad Mike Williams became a new member on the Advisory Council. (Posted 5/28/01)

Dad Griggers announced at the Advisory Council meeting on March 22, 2001 that he would be stepping down as Chapter Dad. He will remain on the Advisory Council. Dad Honea has assumed the role of Interim Chapter Dad until the Advisory Council can select a new one. (Posted 4/15/01)

Georgia won the 3rd round in the March Madness Worldwide membership drive, beating out Florida in round one, South Carolina in round two and West Virginia in round three. We were beaten by Ohio in round four, but we won the Southeast! Way to go guys. (Posted 4/15/01)

Clayton Chapter comes away from the Tournament of Champions competition on February 3, 2001 with 1st Place in Chapter Proficiency! The guys did a wonderful job. Brian Eidson captured 1st Place in the Ceremony of Lights. Alex Williams brings home a 2nd Place award for 3rd Preceptor. (Posted 3/22/01)

Clayton had a record-breaking attendance of 94 persons that attended the Installation of Officers on January 20, 2001. Michael Griggers was installed as Master Councilor along with a full slate of officers. Clayton was honored to have the Installation performed by the sitting state officers, all of which performed in their actual position. State Executive Dad, William Carver, and State Chapter Dad and Personal Representative of the DeMolay Grand Master, Dad Marc Bohn, congratulated the new officers and congratulated Clayton on its excellent growth and active participation by its members.
